Blake Apffel for Justice pct2Blake Apffel  is a lifelong Conservative Republican and 5th Generation Galvestonian. He received his undergraduate from Texas A&M University where he majored in Communication and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Since becoming licensed to practice law in 2015, Blake has successfully argued verdicts before the 1st and 14th Courts of Appeal, been honored as a Texas Rising Star Lawyer in 2020 and 2021, and recognized by the Galveston Daily News 40 under 40.

Blake will be a full-time Judge and bring professionalism, accountability & transparency to the Justice of the Peace office.

He and his high school sweetheart, Tara, have three children and are active members of The Fellowship – TC.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Jon Spiers, Candidate for Texas Land Commissioner

Dr. Jon Spiers is the principal attorney at the health law firm Spiers Group and serves on the board of directors of Xceed Biopharma. Xceed is a venture group focused on developing critical biotechnology in the USA to ensure stable and reliable technology on American soil and avoid foreign reliance for essential needs.

Dr. Jon Spiers Dr. Spiers is a graduate of Duke University and subsequently attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis, Tennessee. He continued in Memphis to complete his general surgery residency. The Memphis medical complex was home to one of the nation’s busiest training sites for trauma surgery and a regional Veteran’s Affairs referral hospital.

While a general surgery resident, Jon performed laboratory and clinical research partly funded by the US Army. He studied the efficacy of small volume, easily transportable treatments for traumatic and hypovolemic shock geared towards saving our soldiers while in the arena. Spiers served in the US Army Medical Corps during this time, and then-Captain Spiers was mobilized briefly for the first Gulf War.

Spiers followed his general surgery training with a cardiac and thoracic surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery in the Texas Medical Center.

A year after Hurricane Katrina devastated his community, personal disaster struck. Spiers sustained an injury to his arm and hand that ended his career in the operating room. 

Spiers graduated from the University of Houston Law Center and established the Spiers Group, focused on many Texas-related issues, including biotechnology and business.

Spiers has served a variety of organizations as a volunteer or board member. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, Spiers built and operated a 3D printing facility that manufactured thousands of pieces of protective gear and provided it free of charge to first responders across Texas and the nation.

He has been an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 55 Boy Scouts of America in Houston. He served on the Advisory Board of the national non-profit HealthCorps, where his focus was expanding the Texas Two-Step Save A Life simplified CPR campaign. Always attentive to the needs of our men and women who serve our nation.

Spiers is a life member of the NRA. He has served as a precinct chair and formerly headed the Engagement committee for the Harris County Republican Party. He resides with his wife, Dr. Dana Myers, in Houston. They attend St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.

Dr. Jon Spiers is running for Texas Land Commissioner for a safer, stronger Texas.

Guest Speakers: Patrick J. McGinnis and Norman Pappous, Candidates for Galveston County GOP Chairman

Patrick-McGinnisPatrick J. McGinnis, MD, MS, MBA:
Professional experience:
Dr. McGinnis has had a career at the intersection of medicine & technology, but always with a focus on the mission at hand.  He has broad medical experience across the public sector, private sector, and academia.

He began his career as a flight surgeon for NASA and the US Air Force Reserve, and then embarked into the emerging discipline of Healthcare IT.  He has held physician executive and leadership positions with Cerner, Memorial Hermann, 2nd.MD and Humana Military.   In 2013, he became one of the first physicians in the US to become Board Certified in the new subspecialty of Clinical Informatics.

Along with these roles, he has been active with Houston Angel Network and an Advisor to the Houston Health Ventures.  He is also an Adjunct Professor at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics, one of the premier institutions of the Texas Medical Center.   He currently serves on the Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation and the Galveston County United Board of Health.

Political experience:
Dr. McGinnis’ entry into the political arena began in 2002.  Then he served as a Congressional Fellow in the US Senate with Senator Conrad Burns (R-Montana), gaining tremendous insight to public policy.  In 2008, he attended his first precinct convention, and subsequently has been a steady presence within the Galveston County Republican Party activities.  He has attended every Senate District and RPT State Convention since then.  In 2012, he was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention. He was elected and served two terms on the City Council of Friendswood TX.  He served as the Program Chair, and then President of the Galveston County Republican Network.  He was elected to be the Chairman of the Galveston County Republican Party in 2020.

Norman PappousNorman Pappous:
Norman Pappous was born in Galveston, Texas in 1963. He has earned degrees in economics as well as financial markets.

His political efforts began in 1979 as a young teenager stuffing envelopes at the Fairfax County, VA Republican Women’s Club offices. His Republican volunteer efforts span decades at all levels of the Federal, state, and local levels.

Twice elected to the Galveston City Council, the Galveston independent school board of trustees once, and precinct chair for precinct 263 in League City, Norman has won every election he has run in.

He possesses over 25 years of experience in the investment sector in various roles in the UK and USA and has taught Economics at the college level. Norman been quoted in the New York Post, The Financial Times, Forbes, Derivatives Weekly, Investment News, Registered Rep. and other industry publications.

Norman is a prolific advocate for conservative causes and has authored dozens of guest columns that have been published in the Daily News.

He lives in League City, TX with his wife Addie. Together they have raised four boys.
