See below for training & resources

Hey Team SD11 Delegates!

Whoa. After hearing we exhausted all legal avenues to hold an ‘in person’ convention, we’re set for a virtual version. This was definitely the last resort. Please know that I fought tooth & nail to make an in person convention a reality …. this situation was out of our control.

Below are resources you’ll need for this transition.

FAQs

1) I am a delegate & am not receiving convention emails from the RPT. What do I do?
Answer: Email convention@texasgop.org & provide your name, address, county, senate district, & congressional district to make sure you’re receiving information!

2) Do I have to pay a registration fee to register for the convention?
Answer: So far, yes.

3) May I receive a refund for RPT Gala tickets, Comedy Show, &/or my registration fee?
Answer: Contact RPT office after Tues July 21st to inquire about any refunds.
512-477-9821 info@texasgop.org

4) What do I do for hearing impaired options?
Answer: If you’re participating from the Republican Party of Texas YouTube Channel, click on ‘settings’ & select ‘playback & performance’ to turn on caption. To access closed caption for Zoom, you’ll need to download an app.

Please forgive the brevity of this email but I just wanted to make sure that you had the tools you needed to prepare for a successful virtual convention experience, as soon as possible.

Kudos to Brazoria County Republican Party for taking the initiative to gather delegates in person to get through this process together! I encourage others to do the same … meet up at a church, someone’s home, or an office. It will definitely be fun & others will be around to help you with technology issues, hopefully. LOL

Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.

For God & For Texas,
Tanya Robertson – SREC SD11 Committeewoman

Important updates about Galveston County SD11 Convention – Please read the entire email!

In the past gatherings (such as conventions) have been discouraged and I am awaiting an email telling us that we will not be able to utilize Creekside Intermediate as the host venue for our convention on the 21st.  Being over the age of 60 places individuals in a major risk category for complications from the disease and a fair portion of our delegation falls into this category.

State law and party rules do not allow us to reschedule a convention, or even to change the location. But there are workarounds, which most senate districts and counties in the state of Texas are having to implement to some extent or the other. Currently, we are working on options for alternative locations that would allow us to conduct the convention after briefly convening and then going into recess at the original location. I will pass along more information about the updated location once it is set in stone. Our goal is to get as much of the work of the convention done ahead of time as possible, so that next Saturday we can complete our business in a short amount of time with, potentially, a small number of people.

I want to be very clear on this next point.  There is nothing I or anyone can do, nor authority we possess that can prevent ANY delegate from attending the SD11 Convention in Galveston County on March 21st.  While we are taking every step we can, many of which are outlined in this email, to allow for the majority of delegates to avoid gathering as a group, no one who wishes to attend will be turned away.  At the same time, we strongly encourage you to please be extremely mindful of the decision that you make as every additional person who attends in person risks potentially increasing the likelihood of someone becoming infected unnecessarily.

If you are in an at-risk group or interact regularly with someone who is, I highly encourage you to not attend the convention, and just use the form to apply to be a state delegate.

NOMINATIONS

The most important obligation we have to complete at our SD11 Convention is the nomination and election of our 136 Delegates and 136 Alternates to the RPT State Convention in May.  As of this email, the State Convention is moving forward as scheduled.  Check back often for details at www.texasgop.org for future updates.  So for the next week, we will be concentrating the bulk of our energy on reaching out, not only to the 182 delegates to the SD Convention but to all Galveston County Republicans who want to be delegates or alternate delegates to the State Convention.  It is my goal to make sure that everyone who wants to serve as a delegate will have the opportunity to do so.  So if you have not already submitted an application to be a state delegate, we are asking that you do so as soon as possible by going to this LINK and reach out to all of your interested republican friends and encourage them to do the same. Please note that it is imperative, especially in light of the current COVID-19 situation, that we have both your current email address and contact phone number.  We do not want you to miss any critical information.

IMPORTANT: Note that each person who applies must fill out the form. So if three people in your family want to be delegates, you need to submit the form three separate times–once for each of them.

RESOLUTIONS

There is no mechanism in RPT Rules or the TEC to allow for online voting, web conferencing, or other virtual methods of conducting a meaningful discussion on the resolutions that were submitted.  In an effort to make sure that every resolution that was submitted at the precinct convention has the opportunity to be discussed and debated, we have concluded that the fairest course of action is to include ALL of the submitted resolutions in the report of the Temporary Resolutions Committee.  Once approved on the 21st, these resolutions will be transmitted to the State Platform Committee where they will receive the debate and discussion that their authors deserve.

RULES

One of the most important things that I am working hard to accomplish is making sure that the delegates feel that they can avoid the risk of not meeting in person as a large group and still trust that nothing is going to happen that is going to undermine the inclusivity that I am trying to communicate in this email.  To that end, the Temporary Rules Chairman is drafting two supplemental rules that will ensure that happens.

  1. A Supplemental rule that states that once the Report of the Permanent Nominations Committee is read, it will not be eligible for debate or amendment.  It will simply receive an up or down vote.
  2.  A Supplemental rule that states that once the Report of the Permanent Resolutions Committee is read, it will not be eligible for debate or amendment.  It will simply receive an up or down vote.

Additionally, both the Temporary Nominations and Temporary Resolutions reports will be sent via email, posted on the Galveston County Republican Party website, and shared on the GCRP Facebook page by Friday morning at 10 am for all delegates to review to ensure that nobody gets missed and that all resolutions are included.

Thank you for signing up to be a delegate and for your patience as we work through this process. We’re in an evolving situation, so there is no telling what will happen between now and next weekend–but please keep an eye out for more of these emails so that you will be the first to know.

God bless,
